Pittsburgh Refugee Outreach 2017-04-21T20:34:43+00:00

Goals:

To partner with YWAM Pittsburgh and their Refugee Ministry in an attempt to share the message of Jesus with a small portion of the some 10,000 Bhutanese-Nepali people that reside as refugees in the city. Additionally, it served as a training ground and test run of our mission team that would be going to Brazil in the following month.

For three days, from 6/17-6/19, Bethel International Mission Center sent a small group composed of a few of the church leaders and some of the youth to Pittsburgh, PA to partner with the branch of Youth With a Mission (YWAM) that is located there. The trip began with the group’s departure from the Philadelphia area on 6/17, and arrivial in Pittsburgh later that day. The team met up with YWAM contacts and jumped right in with a night of street evangelism. They then returned back to where they would be spending the night and woke up the next day to began putting together a fun, interactive camp for the Nepali Refugee community, specifically the children. The day consisted of some games, skits, and music geared to the kids. Following that, the afternoon was composed of the team handing out some flyers to promote a game night hosted by YWAM in a new building that they have acquired and are working on developing into a youth community center/after school care. The game night itself had more games and events, as well as personal testimonies from team members of how Jesus Christ has changed their lives. The night was a time of prayer for the city and its various parts (politicians, medical professionals, tech industries, etc.) as the team overlooked Pittsburgh from the Mt. Washington Observatory Deck. The team then went back to their lodging place, and woke up the next day to have some time of prayer and worship by the Allegheny River before heading back home to Philadelphia.
